Richard Bletschacher

Richard Max Josef Bletschacher ( born October 23, 1936 in Fussen at Lech ) is a German playwright and author.

Bletschacher studied law, philosophy and theater and musicology in Munich, Heidelberg, Paris and Vienna. In the spring of 1959, he was assistant director and assistant dramaturg at the Theater in der Josefstadt. In the fall of 1959 he moved to the Vienna State Opera, where he remained connected as a director and chief dramaturge 37 years. Meanwhile, he also served as Director et al in Milan, London, Tokyo, Palm Beach and Montreal. From 1982 to 1996 he was head of dramaturgy at the Vienna State Opera.

Bletschacher wrote and translated texts of operas, plays, poetry, short stories, children's books and musicological works. Today, he works as a writer and painter.

He lives and works in Vienna and Drossendorf an der Thaya.
