Richard Chartier

Richard Chartier ( born March 29, 1971 in Arlington ( Virginia), USA) is an American sound and installation artist and graphic designer. He is one of the key figures of the current electronic sound art, the micro- sounds and Neo-Modernism. Since 1998, he has published about 50 CDs on different record labels around the world. In Germany, for example on Raster-Noton He also runs his own label Line Records. As a DJ he appears under the pseudonym pinkcourtesyphone in appearance.

Collaborations

Working together, there were, among others, Taylor Deupree, William Basinski, CoH and Asmus Tietchens, as well as the installation and video artists Evelina Domnitch, Dmitry Gelfand and video artist Linn Meyers.

Richard Chartier has been known to occur in Europe, Japan, Australia and the United States.

Music

His music consists primarily of digitally generated sound surfaces, but also samples of acoustic instruments and voices are integrated. Textures and sound design in the tradition of contemporary minimalism and are often applied very quiet and economical. In general, the surfaces are static or teilfragmentiert. They contain individual events as isolated frequency considerations (especially in the treble), noise-like eruptions in the kind of collapse fields.
