Richard Dering

Richard Dering (also Deering, Dearing; * 1580; buried March 22, 1630 in London ) was an English organist and composer.

After studying at Oxford, he moved to Italy in 1612. He went there to Catholicism and came under the influence of the Italian style of composition that strongly influenced from that time on his work. In 1625 he returned to his home, before he held for some time the post of organist at the monastery of the English Benedictine nuns in Brussels.

The works of his early years are still written in the English tradition, he created vocal and instrumental music also using melodies of his homeland. Upon his return, his works do follow the Italian style.
