Richard Eaton Singers

Richard Eaton ( born January 16, 1914 in Victoria, British Columbia, † January 25, 1968 in Rhodes ) was a Canadian choir conductor, organist and composer.

Eaton was from 1930 to 1935 organist at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria. He then went to Montreal where he was organist and choirmaster at St Martin 's Church and graduated from McGill University with Claude Champagne. From 1939 to 1944 he taught at Upper Canada College in Toronto, then at the Ottawa Technical High School.

Since 1947 he has taught at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where he led the musical faculty. He was here on the board of Edmonton Opera Association and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and has traveled with the mixed choir of the University. In 1951 he founded the University Singers, whose conductor he was until 1967. The choir was named after his death, Richard Eaton Singers.

Eaton has composed many anthems and folk song arrangements.
