Richard Edlund

Richard Edlund ( born December 6, 1940 in Fargo, North Dakota, United States) is an American specialist in visual effects in the film.

Life

At the age of 15 years, his high school photos were printed in the Los Angeles Examiner. In the U.S. Navy, he deepened his photographic skills at the U.S. Naval Photographic School. His interest in film was sparked during a two-year stay in Japan. He began to produce training films for the Navy and attended upon his return to the United States, the USC film school. Before he went to Hollywood, he was a photographer for rock bands and LP covers, he also developed a portable guitar amplifier called Pignose.

In 1975 he was a co-founder of George Lucas ' legendary effects Industrial Light & Magic (ILM ). In 1977, he was under John Dykstras line charge effect photographer for Star Wars. In the eight years at ILM, he oversaw inter alia, the special effects in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi Knight, Battlestar Galactica, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Poltergeist.

1983 Edlund left ILM and founded his own company Boss film studios. In addition to various TV spots were created here the effects of Ghostbusters, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, Die Hard and Ghost - Message from Sam. Even in his old adopted home of Japan and in China he did at this time a lot of construction work, sponsored by Eastman Kodak. After Ghost was to Edlund little quieter. He then headed the special effects in Alien ³, Species, Multiplicity and Air Force One.
