Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel

Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel, 10th Earl of Surrey ( also Fitzalan ) (* 1346, † September 21, 1397 ) was an English nobleman and military leader.

His parents were Richard Fitzalan, 10th Earl of Arundel ( Sussex ), and Eleanor of Lancaster. At the age of 13 years, Richard was married to Elizabeth de Bohun of the nine -year-old, the daughter of William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton. 1376, he was after the death of his father Earl of Arundel and Earl of Surrey. Arundel was the admiral of the English fleet in 1387 and defeated the combined navies of France, Spain and Flanders at Margate. In 1388 he was among the " Lords Appellant ", which weakened the power of King Richard II and the " merciless parliament" inserting. 1397, when Richard had regained his freedom of action, he let Arundel why beheaded as a traitor.

Richard 's younger brother Thomas Arundel (1353-1414) was a bishop and from 1388 Archbishop of York and Canterbury and Lord Chancellor under Richard II and Henry IV.

With Elizabeth de Bohun Richard Fitzalan had five children:

  • Thomas Fitzalan, 12th Earl of Arundel (13 October 1381-13. October 1415 )

Elizabeth died on April 3 1385th 1390 Fitzalan married fifteen year old Philippa Mortimer, daughter of Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March and Philippa Plantagenet, 5th Countess of Ulster, a granddaughter of King Edward III. Their son John died shortly after the beheading of his father at the age of about 3 years.
