Richard G. Shoup

Richard Gardner Shoup ( born November 29, 1923 in Salmon, Lemhi County, Idaho; † 25 November 1995) was an American politician.

Life

Shoup studied at the University of Montana in Missoula, where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1950. In the course of the Second World War, he served from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army. During the Korean War, he was again 1951-1952 soldier.

Shoup's political career began with his election to the City Council of Missoula (Missoula City Council). He belonged to him from 1963 to 1967 and at this time was its president from 1965 to 1967. 1967-1970 Shoup held the office of mayor of the city. During his time as mayor, he represented the city in the Montana League of Cities and Towns. Shoup was in 1970 elected as a Republican to Congress and represented there, from 3 January 1971 to January 3, 1975 in the state of Montana U.S. House of Representatives. After his retirement from politics was from 1975 to 1984 director of the Union Pacific Railroad in Washington, DC.

Richard Gardner Shoup was the great-grandson of George Laird Shoup.
