Richard Galliano

Richard Galliano ( born December 12, 1950 in Le Cannet in Cannes) is a world- renowned French jazz musician and composer.

The young Galliano took lessons in trombone, harmony and counterpoint at the Academy of Music in Nice. His father was an accordionist and Richard learned early to play this instrument. In order to expand his repertoire, he began as a 14- year-old, systematic and varied listening to jazz and enact on his instrument.

1983 Astor Piazzolla invited Galliano to occupy the first bandoneon voice in Piazzolla's " Midsummer Night's Dream ". He advised him his " Americanist " store style and to reflect on its French origin: "Create a Musette Neuve' style, as I have invented the Tango Nuevo. " This Council followed Galliano, the New Musette style he sat 1991 to the same live recording at New Musette, which he recorded in a quartet with guitarist Philip Catherine, bassist Pierre Michelot and drummer Aldo Romano.

Today Galliano is considered one of the great jazz accordionist. In addition to his own groups he has worked with include Juliette Greco, Charles Aznavour, Ron Carter, Chet Baker, Enrico Rava, Martial Solal, Al Foster, Miroslav Vitouš, Trilok Gurtu, Jan Garbarek, Michel Petrucciani, Michel Portal, Jean Toots Thielemans, Biréli Lagrène and Wynton Marsalis. In 2007, he took with Jan Lundgren and Paolo Fresu for the ACT label album Mare Nostrum and played on the Jazz Baltica Festival, Jazz in Marciac and Enjoy Jazz.

His repertoire consists of their own compositions ( he refers to, for example, the pieces Tango Pour Claude, Laurita, Backlands and whimsy as his " Standards"), interpretations of classical composers (Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Maurice Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Erik Satie ) Tango compositions (mainly Astor Piazzolla ), compositions of his fellow musicians and - more rarely - from jazz standards ( You Must Believe In Spring, Ruby My Dear, Spain ).

Besides accordion he plays on his recordings occasionally Accordina (a kind of harmonica melodica or with button keyboard ), trombone, piano, synthesizers and bandoneon.
