Richard H. Vose

Richard H. Vose ( born November 8, 1803 in Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine; † January 19, 1864 ) was an American politician and 1841 Acting Governor of the State of Maine.

Career

Richard H. Vose attended Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1822. He studied law and then opened law offices in Worcester (Massachusetts ) and Augusta ( Maine). Vose chose to pursue a political career in 1824 when he successfully ran for a seat in the House of Representatives from Maine. He held this post in 1835, 1838 and 1839 again. He also served 1840-1841 in the Senate of Maine, from which he was Senate President in 1841. On January 12, 1841 Governor John Fairfield resigned from his post and Vose, who was already President of the Senate, then took over his official duties. He held this office until January 13, 1841, when the new Governor Edward Kent was elected and took office. Vose Then took his Senate post again. Later, he was from 1848 to 1856 worked as a district attorney for Kennebec County.

Richard H. Vose was married to Harriet Chandler. The couple had two children together.
