Richard Hutson

Richard Hutson (* July 9, 1748 in Prince William Parish, South Carolina, † April 12, 1795 in Charleston, South Carolina ) was an American politician.

Hutson studied law. After his admission to the legal profession, he practiced in Charleston. 1776-1779, 1781, 1782, 1785 and 1788 was Hutson deputy in the House of Representatives from South Carolina. He was also in 1778 and 1779 delegate to the Continental Congress. In 1780 he came to Charleston in British prisoner of war and was not released until the following year.

Hutson was 1780-1782 Member of the Legislative Council of South Carolina as well as in connection 1782-1783 Deputy Governor (Lieutenant Governor ) of South Carolina. 1783 to 1784 he was the first mayor of the city of Charleston.
