Richard J. Daley

Richard Joseph Daley ( born May 15, 1902 in Chicago, † December 20, 1976 ) was an American politician and long-time mayor of Chicago. With 21 years in office, he is responsible not only significantly the policy of the city, but also played in the Democratic Party a significant role, for example in support of the presidential candidacies of John F. Kennedy in 1960, Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964 and Hubert H. Humphrey in 1968. Daley was known nationwide as he used the police against anti - war protesters at the democratic national Convention in Chicago in late August 1968. The security forces were particularly hard against the protesters in front of what was high attention beyond the borders of the United States.

He is the father of former Mayor Richard M. Daley and former U.S. Commerce Secretary and former Chief of Staff William M. Daley the White House.

According to him, the Richard J. Daley Center, a 197 -meter-high skyscraper, which was from 1965 to 1969, the tallest building in the city of Chicago was named.
