Richard Katz

Richard Katz ( born October 21, 1888 in Prague, † 8 November 1968, Muralto, Ticino ) was a German journalist and travel writer of Czech origin.

Life

After graduating from high school (Abitur ) studied Katz law at the German University in Prague. Already during his studies he began to write for various newspapers and magazines. The Vossische newspaper dedicated Katz immediately after studying for their office in Prague. For this newspaper, he traveled to as a "traveling reporter " for well over a year East Asia.

1902 Katz continued as editor of the anthology Architectural character images continuously.

After the First World War, Katz went to Leipzig in 1919 and was promoted there in 1924 as head of the Leipzig publishing house print shop. He served two years this post. In the years 1928 to 1930 he worked as an officer for the Ullstein Verlag in Berlin. As such, Katz founded the " Green Post", which reached already after a very short time over one million edition. This financial success Katz has established itself as an independent writer since 1930.

1933 Katz had to emigrate to Switzerland because he was of Jewish descent, and from there to Brazil in 1941, because he was German. He took the Brazilian citizenship, but suffered from severe homesickness, which was reflected in the books made ​​there, and returned about 1956 back to Switzerland. Although the books created there could not quite match his earlier success with travel literature, but was with the animal and garden books that appeared in numerous editions than paperbacks, but a very popular writer of his time. He died in 1968 in his home above Locarno.

In the interwar period, Katz was with Colin Ross and AE Johann one of the most successful travel writers in German language. He has almost traveled the world and is characterized by a unique, critical and humorous style.
