Richard Kissling

Richard Kissling ( born April 15, 1848 in Wolfwil SO; † July 19, 1919 in Zurich ) was a Swiss sculptor.

Richard Kissling is one of the most prestigious Denkmalplastikern Switzerland in the late 19th and early 20th century. After his apprenticeship as a plasterer, he lived 13 years in Rome, where 1872/73 he worked for the late classical Swiss sculptor Ferdinand Schlöth and 1874 after his return to Switzerland, presumably also took over the studio. At the Exhibition 1883 in Zurich, the young and little-known Kissling excited with a portrait bust of Alfred Escher stir. As a result, Kissling received the order to execute a monumental memorial fountain of Escher in bronze and granite front of the Arch at Zurich Hauptbahnhof. His most famous work is the Tell monument in Altdorf.

Then Kissling was one of the busiest Swiss sculptor, although his classical - style heroic increasingly regarded as outdated in his last years. After the death of his fame faded quickly. So to have been thrown into the lake of Zurich even the original plaster models of Escher fountain.
