Richard Lochhead

Richard Lochhead ( born May 24, 1969 in Paisley ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party ( SNP). He is married with two sons and lives in Elgin.

Lochhead visited the Williamson High School in Glasgow and acquired at Glasgow Central College of Commerce, a HNC in Business Administration. Subsequently, he studied politics at the University of Stirling and graduated as Bachelor. Between 1994 and 1998 he worked for the then House of Representatives and later First Minister Alex Salmond.

For the first time Lochhead approached to national elections in the parliamentary elections of 1999. He stood as a candidate in the constituency Aberdeen Central, but the direct mandate could not win against the Labour candidate Lewis MacDonald. Since Lochhead, however, was also placed on the Regional Evaluation of the SNP for choosing North East Scotland, he managed to move into the newly created Scottish Parliament as a list of seven candidates of the constituency. In the 2003 parliamentary elections Lochhead missed again the direct mandate of Aberdeen Central, but defended his mandate list for North East Scotland.

On 21 March 2006, died the delegates of the constituency Moray, Margaret Ewing, which is why on 27 April 2006 by-elections were held in this constituency. To be able to run in this election, Lochhead returned his mandate, which was acquired by the end of the legislative period of his party colleague Maureen Watt. In the by-election Lochhead received the largest share of votes and thus won the direct mandate of the constituency. In the following elections in 2007 and 2011, he defended his position. Since 2007, Lochhead 's Minister for Environment and Rural Affairs.
