Richard Martin West

Richard Martin West ( born 1941 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish astronomer who worked at the European Southern Observatory ( ESO).

West discovered numerous comets, including the comet C/1975 V1 spectacular (West ) and the periodic comets 76P/West-Kohoutek-Ikemura and 123P/West-Hartley.

He discovered 1976-1986 a total of 40 asteroids, including the Trojans ( 2146 ) Stentor ( 2148 ) Epeios and ( 20995 ) 1985 VY. West is co-discoverer (along with Hans -Emil Schuster ), the Phoenix dwarf galaxy.
