Richard Marx

Richard Noel Marx ( born September 16, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American singer and songwriter.

Career

Richard Marx grew up in a very musical family - his father, Dick Marx was a composer and vocal coach, his mother Ruth singer. Marx is married to actress Cynthia Rhodes since 1989 and the couple have three sons.

Marx was discovered at the beginning of the 80's by Lionel Richie, for whom he worked as a backing vocalist in the port. As early as 1987 Richard Marx published his eponymous solo debut, which had great success especially in the USA. In 1989 he made ​​the final break with his ballad Right Here Waiting from his second album, Repeat Offender. His third album Rush Street (1991 ) followed up on the success of the first two LPs and brought Marx to the peak of his solo career.

In the following years he published four other plates, including a best-of album, but on the successes of previous years, he was not able. He retired as far as possible from the public and worked primarily as a songwriter for many well known artists. He wrote, among other texts for Kenny Loggins, Lara Fabian, 98 Degrees and 'N Sync. He has also acted in this period, especially for the teaching of art and music in schools and for a campaign against smoking.

It was not until his eighth solo album, My Own Best Enemy, he made 2004 a much awaited comeback. On this record, Marx worked with some well-known colleagues such as Fee Waybill, Michael Landau and Keith Urban. In addition, its single Ready To Fly was the unofficial anthem of the Four Hills Tournament 2005.

Overall, Marx has sold in his career over 30 million records. He had written as a singer nineteen Top 20 hits, including seven number - one hits and has thirteen more for other artists. In 2004 he won with Luther Vandross a Grammy Award for the song Dance With My Father as " Song of the Year".
