Richard Oelze

Richard Oelze ( born June 29, 1900 in Magdeburg, † 27 May 1980 in Good Poste wood near Hameln ) was a German painter. It is attributed to the surrealism.

Life

From 1914 Oelze attended the School of Applied Arts Magdeburg, where was his training as a lithographer to 1918. In the evening studies he learned the life drawing. Among his teachers were there from 1918 Richard Winckel and Kurt cloth. From 1919 to 1921 he studied at the same school studying on a scholarship. 1921-1925 he was a student at the Bauhaus, first. Weimar under Johannes Itten, then in Dessau, where in 1929 he received a teaching position at the Bauhaus From 1926 to 1929 he lived in Dresden, participated here in an exhibition of "Dresden Secession ," and from 1929 to 1930 in Ascona in Switzerland, where he met through reproductions of the works of surrealism. Richard Oelze was in 1959 at the documenta II in 1964 and the documenta III in Kassel. In 1965 he became a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.

Work

His most important work is probably The expectation (1935/1936), where a group of people staring with his back to the viewer in an empty landscape.
