Richard Oelze
Richard Oelze ( born June 29, 1900 in Magdeburg, † 27 May 1980 in Good Poste wood near Hameln ) was a German painter. It is attributed to the surrealism.
Life
From 1914 Oelze attended the School of Applied Arts Magdeburg, where was his training as a lithographer to 1918. In the evening studies he learned the life drawing. Among his teachers were there from 1918 Richard Winckel and Kurt cloth. From 1919 to 1921 he studied at the same school studying on a scholarship. 1921-1925 he was a student at the Bauhaus, first. Weimar under Johannes Itten, then in Dessau, where in 1929 he received a teaching position at the Bauhaus From 1926 to 1929 he lived in Dresden, participated here in an exhibition of "Dresden Secession ," and from 1929 to 1930 in Ascona in Switzerland, where he met through reproductions of the works of surrealism. After a brief stay until 1932 in Berlin, he was in the years 1932 to 1936, after a lengthy stay on Lake Garda, in Paris, made the acquaintance of Andre Breton, Salvador Dalí, Paul Éluard and Max Ernst and processed surrealism in his works. In 1933 he was included in the " Salon des Independants Sur- ". 1936 and 1937 he lived again in Switzerland and Italy. In 1938 he moved to Germany, where he settled in 1939 in the Worpswede.
From 1939 to 1945 he made military service and was in captivity. After the Second World War, he went back to Worpswede, where he worked until 1962 and then moved to Poste wood. Richard Oelze was in 1959 at the documenta II in 1964 and the documenta III in Kassel. In 1965 he became a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
Work
His most important work is probably The expectation (1935/1936), where a group of people staring with his back to the viewer in an empty landscape. This image is seen as a key image in the history of painting. However Previously he had great success with exhibitions in Amsterdam, London, Paris and New York.
Oelze is regarded as one of the most important German painters of Surrealism. Typical of his work is the mysterious appearance of landscapes and figure compositions with already old master reproduction of details.
Oelze had an important influence on the French Spätsurrealisten Christian d' Orgeix. The Kunsthalle Bremen has a Richard Oelze archive in which many documents and works from the estate of ELLIDA Schargo of elderly are.
Honors
Oelze has received the Max Beckmann Prize, the Karl Ernst Osthaus prize went to the city of Hagen, the Grand Art Prize of North Rhine -Westphalia, the Lichtwark price of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg) and was in 1980 awarded the Lower Price of the category Culture.
The city of Magdeburg, named after a street Oelze, the Oelzeweg; in Worpswede there is the Richard Oelze ring.
