Richard Pococke

Richard Pococke (* 1704 in Southampton, England; † 1765 in Tullamore, Ireland ) was an English travel writer and Anglican bishop.

Richard Pococke undertook an expedition to Egypt, and followed the course of the Nile. He wrote travel accounts of his experiences in the Orient, was known especially his account of the Valley of the Kings. He also wrote accounts of his travels in Ireland and Scotland.

In 1742 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. From 1756 to 1765 he was Bishop of Ossory in Ireland.
