Richard Robinson (philosopher)

Richard Robinson ( born April 12, 1902 in Watton, Norfolk, United Kingdom; † 6 May 1996 Oxford) was an English philosopher.

Richard Robinson studied philosophy at the universities of Oxford and Marburg and then taught at first almost 20 years at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York (USA ) and finally over 20 years at Oriel College, Oxford. In 1933 he married Elizabeth Pestereff.

Research focused on the logic and the ancient Greek philosophy, especially Plato and Aristotle. Robinson also translated Werner Jaeger's epoch-making book Aristotle. In his book An Atheist 's Values ​​Robinson shows the output of a list of personal and political goods that even from an atheistic perspective, ethical and political reflection can be operated founded.
