Richard Russo

Richard Russo ( born July 15, 1949 in Johnstown, New York) is an American writer.

Life

Richard Russo grew up in Gloversville on in upstate New York. He started at the University of Arizona to study archeology, then moved on to literary studies and finished his studies with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and a Master in " Creative writing". He then taught at several American universities: at Penn State University, Altoona, Pennsylvania, at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and at Colby College in Waterville (Maine). Since the successful film adaptation of his novel Nobody's Fool, he works as a freelance writer. He left in 1999, with his wife, a real estate agent, and his two daughters in the coastal town of Camden (Maine) down.

Russo describes in his realistic works told mainly crisis-ridden towns of the American East; he is a master of humorous portrayal of oddball characters. For his novel " Empire Falls, " he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2002. Three years later, the TV movie Empire Falls was published for the Russo wrote the screenplay, for which he was nominated in 2005 for an Emmy.
