Richard Sévigny

Richard F. Sévigny (* November 4, 1957 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played from 1979 to 1987 for the Montreal Canadiens and Quebec Nordiques in the National Hockey League.

Career

During his junior time Sevigny played with Rick Vaive for the Sherbrooke Castors in the QMJHL. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 it chose the Montreal Canadiens in the seventh round as the 124th player Drafts from.

His first stop at senior level were 1977, the Kalamazoo Wings of the IHL. A year later he was playing for the Springfield Indians AHL in you. During the season he moved within the AHL to the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. For the playoffs, the Canadiens picked him as the third goalkeeper behind Ken Dryden and Michel Larocque in their squad. He won his first and only Stanley Cup before he had his first game in the NHL denied.

It was not until the following season 1979/80 he stood for the first time in the NHL in goal. Dryden had ended his career and Larocque shared the bulk of the ice age with Denis Herron. Sevigny played this year eleven games in the NHL. The following year, the three shared the Ice Age, where he had been standing after the departure of Larocque with 33 the most games in goal. For the only time in NHL history, there were three goalkeepers who had at least 25 games contested and so the Vezina Trophy shared. From the 1981/82 season Sevigny shared the place goal, especially with Rick Wamsley.

After the 1983/84 season, his contract ran out in Montreal and unexpectedly, he could not with the Canadiens agree on an extension. There were a number of interested parties, of which the Quebec Nordiques won the race. When the Nordiques he was one of three goalkeepers who shared the task. It did not succeed in establishing itself as a goalkeeper, and he also played again and again for the Fredericton Express in the AHL. For the 1987/88 season he finished his career in the NHL.

Later he played in France for the Chamonix HC and HC Briançon.
