Richard Stilgoe

Sir Richard Henry Simpson Stilgoe KBE ( born March 28, 1943 in Camberley ) is a British songwriter and musician. He wrote the text for the musical Starlight Express and The Phantom of the Opera.

Richard Stilgoe composed and wrote the lyrics for more than 100 songs that have been known around the world through radio, television and stage. For Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the first lines of the musical " Cats", the text for "Starlight Express" and " The Phantom Of The Opera ". Children are at the center of his work. Richard Stilgoe founded the Orpheus Trust, an institution that brings handicapped children music closer and helps them to make music, and led the National Youth Music Theatre, for which he wrote the music and lyrics of "Body Work". The piece was premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 1987 and was published in the same year on record. His musical " The Day The Earth Moved " was first performed in 1999. The following honors were bestowed upon: two Tony nominations, three Monte Carlo Prizes, a Prix Italia, the Honorary Doctorate dignity and award the Order of the British Empire.
