Richard Stribeck

Richard Hermann Stribeck (* July 7, 1861 in Stuttgart, † March 29, 1950 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Life

Stribeck studied from 1880 mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart and worked as a designer in 1885 in Königsberg. In 1888 he became professor at the Stuttgart Baugewerkenschule and 1890 Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University Darmstadt. He took in 1893 to a professorship at the TH Dresden, where he taught as a professor until 1898 for customer equipment and the work -founded the pinion gear research. In 1896 he became head of the Laboratory for Machine college.

In 1898 Stribeck was head of the Physical- Technical Institute of the metallurgical department and director of the center for scientific and technical studies in Neubabelsberg. In 1902 he described the coefficient of friction in lubricated bearings, which later was named after him Stribeck curve.

From 1908 Stribeck first worked for the Friedrich Krupp AG in Essen and from 1919 at Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart. Stribeck was a college friend of the industrialist Robert Bosch, with whom he remained lifelong allegiance in Stuttgart since the common studies at Royal Württemberg Polytechnic.

Stribeck was nominated for his services to the Wilhelm Exner Medal.
