Richard Swett

Richard " Dick" Swett ( born May 1, 1957 in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 1991 and 1995 he represented the State of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives. From 1998 to 2001 he was United States Ambassador to Denmark.

Career

Richard Swett had already come as a child with his parents to New Hampshire. There he attended the public schools in Meredith and Laconia. Then he studied until 1979 at Yale University architecture. In the following years he worked in this profession.

Swett joined the Democratic Party. In 1990 he was chosen as their candidate in the second electoral district of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he entered on January 3, 1991 to the succession of Republican Chuck Douglas, he had beaten in the election. After a re-election in 1992, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1995, two legislative sessions. In the 1994 elections, he was defeated by Republican candidate Charles Bass.

In 1996, Swett ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate. In 1998 he was appointed by U.S. President Bill Clinton as ambassador to Denmark. A post he held until 2001. In 2002, his wife Katrina, the daughter of California Congressman Tom Lantos ran unsuccessfully against Charles Bass for the old deputy seat of her husband in Congress.

The couple Swett now lives in Bow, New Hampshire. Richard Swett working again as an architect. He heads the branch of an architect's office in the capital Washington. He also has his own company in New Hampshire named Swett Associates.
