Richard Sylbert

Richard Sylbert ( born April 16, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York City; † March 23, 2002 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles ) was an American Designer.

Richard Sylbert studied art at Temple University in Pennsylvania. After his time as a soldier in the Korean War, he worked as a freelance artist and background artist in New York. Initial work as production designer created for television theater productions such as Hamlet (1953) and Richard II (1954). His first theater work was the film drama And tomorrow it hits you ( patterns) in 1956. His breakthrough he experienced as a production designer for Elia Kazan with movies like Baby Doll and A Face in the Crowd.

Richard Sylbert was nominated six times for an Oscar Best Art in the category. Immediately on his first nomination in 1967, he won it for Who 's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Mike Nichols. He received a second Oscar in 1991 for Dick Tracy by Warren Beatty.

From 1975 to 1978, Richard Sylbert Vice President of Paramount Studios. He died of cancer in 2002. Richard Sylbert was the twin brother of Paul Sylbert, who also works as a production designer. Paul Sylberts Ex Wife and Richard Sylberts sister Anthea Sylbert is a costume designer.
