Richard-Wagner-Platz (Berlin U-Bahn)

Today's subway station Richard -Wagner-Platz is a station of the Berlin U -Bahn line U7 in the district of Charlottenburg. The first station on this site was on May 14, 1906 the name of William Square - named after King Frederick William I - in operation. The current station was opened on 28 April 1978. History

Wilhelmplatz station was the terminus of the first extension of the knee (now Ernst- Reuter -Platz) on Bismarck Street (today: German opera). It was built by Alfred Grenander as head station with three tracks. On February 1, 1935, he was renamed Richard -Wagner-Platz.

On 2 May 1970, the station was taken out of service in previous years, only a short train shuttled between German opera and Richard -Wagner-Platz as a separate line, which was called from 1966 line 5. Metro Station was demolished in 1974, but the built in low-profile tunnel under the Richard -Wagner-Straße still exists today and is connected to the large profile of the tunnel line U7. On 28 April 1978 the line was extended from the previous endpoint U7 Fehrbellinerplatz to Richard -Wagner-Platz. The new central platform was built according to plans by Rainer G. Rümmler. In the northern distributor hall scene images with figures of different operas by Richard Wagner are attached to walls and columns. Two of the images are located in the southern distributor hall. The mosaics in the Byzantine style were made in 1903 by an unknown artist to this day and were originally mounted on Potsdamer Straße in " Minstrel Hall" of the hotel " Old Bavaria".
