Richland County (Illinois)

The Richland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 16,233 inhabitants and a population density of 17.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Olney.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Illinois and has an area of 938 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. The south-western boundary is formed by the Little Wabash River, the left tributary, the Fox River, which flows through the center of the county. In the far northeast of the county the Embarras River reached. At the Richland County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Richland County was formed on February 24, 1841 from the Edwards County. It was named after the former County of the new settlers, the Richland County, Ohio.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Richland County 16,233 people in 6687 households. The population density was 17.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 6687 households lived statistically 2.39 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 97.3 percent white, 0.7 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.0 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.4 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

22.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.8 percent were between 18 and 64 and 19.2 percent were 65 years or older. 51.1 percent of the population was female.
