Richmond Fontaine

Richmond Fontaine is an American alternative rock and country band from Portland, Oregon.

Band History

The head of the band, guitarist and singer Willy Vlautin, founded 16 years ago in his native Nevada his first band, but the opportunities to perform in the State sparsely populated were not enough for him, so that he went into the neighboring state of Oregon. In Portland, he met bassist Dave Harding in 1994 and drummer Stuart Gaston and they founded Richmond Fontaine. After they had occurred two years long, they released their first album for a local label. In the same year they changed the label and launched several tours through various states. Further albums followed and changes in the cast. Paul Brainard was added to the pedal steel guitar, as an additional guitarist Dan Eccles joined and Sean Oldham came as drummer for Gaston.

Over the years, the band released albums regularly and made a name for himself without great success to have. The band for their lyrics, which were written by Willy Vlautin became known. From 2006 he also published several novels. Richmond Fontaine are also known beyond North America and in 2009 they succeeded with the album We Used to Think the Freeway Sounded Like a River in the UK, which was denied in their home countries so far them a placement on the charts.
