Richmond is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. It is located in the homonymous municipality in the district uMgungundlovu. Richmond has about 3,349 inhabitants (as of 2011; census).

The city was founded in 1850 as the Byrne settlers arrived from the British Isles here. The settlers had a pretty heavy early because their ship had sunk and they had thus lost most of their belongings.
