Richmond Local Municipality

Richmond (English Richmond Local Municipality ) is a town in South Africa's District uMgungundlovu in the province of KwaZulu -Natal. The administrative center of the municipality is located in the city of Richmond. Bonginkosi Ngcongo is the mayor. The ANC represents the majority in the City Council.

Is named the community after the Earl of Richmond, father of Sir Peregrine Maitland, Governor of the Cape Colony from 1844 to 1847. In 2007, the municipality had 56 772 inhabitants according to projections. It covers an area of ​​1231 square kilometers.

Geography

Richmond is located in the south of the district about 40 kilometers from Pietermaritzburg, the provincial capital, away. In the north the municipality borders on Msunduzi and to the west by Ingwe. To the east of the municipality lies Mkhambathini and south Ubuhlebezwe and Vulamehlo.
