Richmond Renegades (ECHL)

The Richmond Renegades were an American Hockey franchise from Richmond, Virginia. The venue of the Renegades was the Richmond Coliseum.

History

The franchise was founded in 1990 and took his game mode in the ECHL. Head Coach Chris McSorley was, which was, however, replaced after a few games by Dave Allison. The Renegades achieved in its first season 64 points, which they finished fourth in the East Division and qualified for the play-offs. In the first round they were subject to the Hampton Roads Admirals in four games. In the following season the Renegades won 67 points and reached the playoffs. The team failed in the second round, where they were subject to the Winston -Salem Thunderbirds in five games. After the team failed again in the first playoff round in the following season, the Renegades a place in the finals a year later just missed.

The season 1994/95 represented the high point of the franchise - scored 89 points, it won the East Division. After victories over Columbus Chill, Roanoke Express, the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks and the Greensboro Monarchs finally won the Renegades the Kelly Cup. In the following season the Renegades reached 115 points in the regular season and as a result won the Henry Brabham Cup.

Except for the season 1998/99, in the Richmond Renegades reached the finals at the Kelly Cup again, the team never survived the second playoff round. In 2003, the franchise was dissolved.
