Rick Berg

Richard Alan "Rick" Berg ( born August 16, 1959 in Maddock, Benson County, North Dakota ) is an American politician of the Republican Party, who represented the state of North Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013. In the election to the U.S. Senate in 2012 he went to, to succeed the retiring Kent Conrad, but lost the Democratic a contestant Heidi Heitkamp scarce.

Life

After attending high school in Hettinger studied mountain first from 1977 to 1978 at the North Dakota State School of Science and Agricultural Sciences at North Dakota State University ( NDSU ) which he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Agricultural Economics ). He then worked as an entrepreneur.

He also began a political career in the Republican Party and was first elected in 1985 in the House of Representatives from North Dakota, where he represented the 45th constituency of the state until 2011. During this time he was in 1993 briefly as a speaker and most recently 2003-2009 as Majority Leader leader of the Republican majority party in the Parliament of North Dakota. In addition to this political activity, he continued his career continued as an estate agent and financial advisor; initially between 1991 and 2005 as a broker and vice president of Goldmark Commercial Corporation before it from 2005 to 2010 Chief was most recently Vice Chairman of Goldmark Schlossman Commercial Real Estate Services.

In the elections on November 2, 2010, the conservative Republicans mountain, which occurs against abortion, against gay rights and firearms legislation, was elected as the only member of the U.S. House of Representatives for North Dakota. Berg competed in November 2012 not to re-election, but stepped to the election for the U.S. Senate to become the successor of not more candidates democratic incumbent Kent Conrad. He won the internal party preselection (Primary) against Duane Sand with 66 to 34 percent of the vote and met with the Senate election in 2012 to Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, who was from 1993 to 2000 Attorney General of North Dakota. Heitkamp sat down, surprisingly, by a narrow margin.
