Rick Ferrell

Richard "Rick" Benjamin Ferrell ( born October 12, 1905 in Durham, North Carolina; † July 27, 1995 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball.

Biography

Rick Ferrell was an outstanding catcher in the American League, who played a total of 18 years in the Major Leagues. He made his debut on April 19, 1929 with the St. Louis Browns. At the end of his career he had in 1806 contested games as catcher, a record that should only be broken by Carlton Fisk in 1988. Further stations were the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Senators. When the Red Sox he played with his brother Wes Ferrell, who was the pitcher also an extraordinary strong hitter. Ferrell finished his career on September 14, 1947 with a batting average of 28.1 %, 28 homers and 738 RBIs. After his playing career Ferrell remained the baseball faithful and worked as a coach for the Washington Senators. Later he worked in the organization of the Detroit Tigers as a coach, scout and general manager. In 1984 he was picked up by the Veterans Committee in the Baseball Hall of Fame. 1995 Ferrell died at the age of 89 years.
