Rick Heinrichs

Richard "Rick" Henry is an American art director and production designer who won an Oscar for Best Production Design as well as several other film awards, among others, and was especially known for his regular collaboration with the film director Tim Burton.

Life

After schooling Henry studied at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and then began a tenure at The Walt Disney Company, where he met Tim Burton, whose regular employee he later became.

His career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in Hollywood, he began in 1980 with the film Cry of the Lost and previously served on the production of 25 films.

His biggest success came with the horror tales of Henry Sleepy Hollow ( 1999) by Tim Burton starring Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson: For this, he and Peter Young won at the Academy Awards 2000 Oscar for Best Production Design. He also won for this film the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ) for Best Production Design, and his staff the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild ( ADG), with Ken Court, John Dexter, Andy Nicholson and Leslie Tomkins Golden Satellite Award for best art direction, the LAFCA Award for Best production Design of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Sierra Award for Best production Design of Las Vegas film Critics Society.

In 2005, he and Cheryl Carasik received an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design, and indeed for Lemony Snicket - Mysterious Events (2004) by Brad Silberling, starring Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Jew Law in the main roles. In addition, he and his staff for this movie nominated in 2005 for ADG Excellence in Production Design Award.

Together with Cheryl Carasik he was at the Academy Awards in 2007 for the Academy Award for Best Production Design as well as the award of the British Academy Film Awards 2007 BAFTA Film Award for Best Production Design in Pirates of the Caribbean - Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (2006) by nominated Gore Verbinski with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. He also received along with his staff a nomination for the ADG Excellence in Production Design Award.

Another nomination for an ADG Excellence in Production Design Award he received in 2008 along with his staff for Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End ( 2007) by Gore Verbinski with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Tom Hollander.

In 2011 he won the Saturn Award for Best Production Design in The Wolfman (2010) by Joe Johnston and starring Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Simon Merrells in the lead roles.

In 2012, Henry has been nominated for another ADG Excellence in Production Design Award, and indeed for Captain America - The First Avenger (2011) by Joe Johnston and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Hayley Atwell.

He is currently working with Tim Burton on the film adaptation of the mystical horror drama Dark Shadows, as well as the comedy - horror animation Frankenweenie, based on Burton's eponymous short film from 1984.
