Rick Scott

Richard Lynn "Rick" Scott ( born December 2, 1952 in Bloomington, Illinois ) is an American politician and since January 2011, Governor of the State of Florida.

Life

After leaving school, Scott served in the U.S. Navy. He studied economics and law at the University of Missouri and at Southern Methodist University. After studying the end, he got a job in a company in Dallas.

In 1987 he was co-founder of the company Columbia Hospital Corporation. In 1989 the company merged with Hospital Corporation of America for health care company Columbia / HCA, which was the largest for-profit health care company in the United States. In 1997, he was forced to resign from the board of the company, as there was a scandal about the business practices and accounting positions with respect to Medicare; recently, the company admitted to have committed fourteen crime and agreed to the U.S. federal government to pay more than $ 1.7 billion.

In 2001 he founded together with Karen Bowling, the company Solantic in Jacksonville.

Scott is a member of the Republican Party. On 2 November 2010 he won the gubernatorial elections in Florida against Democrat Alex Sink. On January 4, 2011, he took office as governor in place of Charlie Crist. As part of the U.S. presidential election 2012 Scott fell into the public criticism when he caused that early voters instead of the current maximum of eight were able to cast their vote 14 days before the actual election and so long hitting formed outside polling stations.
