Rick Trevino

Rick Trevino ( born May 16, 1971 as Ricardo Trevino Jr. in Austin, Texas) is an American country music singer of Mexican descent.

From his parents, who were both active musicians, Rick initially received training in classical music. Among other things, he studied piano and clarinet playing. He took on a variety of influences, but opted for country music. A talented baseball player, he won a scholarship to Memphis State University, but he refused. Instead, he signed a recording contract in 1991 with the Columbia label.

Career

His first album, Dos Mundos, was published in 1993 in Spanish. His first single was released in both an English version ( Just Enough Rope) as well as in a Spanish ( Bastante Cordon ). His second album, Rick Trevino, appeared in two different versions. Both were awarded with gold ( the Spanish in Spain). In 1994 he succeeded with She Can not Say I Did not Cry and Doctor Time two Top 10 hits. He had his first and only number - one hit in 1997 with Running Out Of Reason. His music was based less on the Mexican models, as in contemporary country music. With appearances and photo ops he always wore a cowboy hat.

In 1998 he founded with some other musicians of Latin American descent, including Freddy Fender, Flaco Jimenez and Joe Ely, the group Los Super Seven. The eponymous album was released a year later won Best Mexican - American Album Grammy. A little later, Trevino surprisingly lost his recording contract. It started a long losing streak, during which he was forced to hoof it through clubs and dance halls. It was not until 2003 he was able to slip the Warner Brothers label. In the same year the album was released In My Dreams.
