Ricky Valance

Ricky Valance ( born April 10, 1939 in Ynysddu, South Wales, real name David Spencer ) is a Welsh pop singer.

In the 1950s and early 1960s there were a number of successful songs, which themed death. Because it usually rejected these songs on the radio to play the British broadcaster BBC on moral grounds, had U.S. hits such as Leader of the Pack by the Shangri -Las and Teen Angel by Mark Dinning on the island in a difficult position; others were there not even published.

Even Ray Peterson with his song Tell Laura I Love Her, 1960 a top 10 hit in the U.S., went to England not only at the start. The song is about a crashed race car driver, whose last words are: "Tell Laura I love her ". Been written, it was of success composer Jeff Barry, whose first big hit it was, and Ben Raleigh. But it was common that songs for other countries have been re- recorded and released by other artists, and so ventured EMI, which Decca had not dared.

For the British version of the Welsh singer David Spencer was elected, who had previously sung especially in smaller clubs. It was produced by Norrie Paramor, and provocative enough, he was still equipped with the stage name " Ricky Valance ", which was reminiscent of the one and a half years earlier, along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper tragically crashed Ritchie Valens.

Of course, the single was immediately banned by the BBC, but by their appearance on the English service of Radio Luxembourg on medium and long wave, she was still so popular that it rose to number 1 in the UK in September 1960. But after 16 weeks, the chart history of Spencer Valance was in his home already come to an end. With Movin 'Away, he still had a big hit in Scandinavia, Australia and South Africa, but neither so still, his other seven singles he made it again in the UK charts. So he returned to the club where his career had begun.

Today he lives in Spain and still occurs.
