Rico Fata

Rico Fata ( born February 12, 1980 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player Italo- that is, since June 2013 in Helsingfors IFK from the SM- liiga under contract. His brother Drew is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Fata was selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 as a whole, sixth player of the Calgary Flames, but despite this high draft position he failed to prevail until his move to the New York Rangers in 2001 in Calgary, so that it was mostly used in unterklassigen farm team. Even in New York it was a breakthrough denied, so he moved from the Rangers to the Pittsburgh Penguins after one and a half seasons. About the Atlanta Thrashers came Fata 2005 on the Washington Capitals.

During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season the Italo - Canadians played in the Italian Serie A1 Club Asiago. The Capitals he left during the season 2006/ 07 in the direction of Germany and joined the Adler Mannheim, with whom he won the German championship. Fata, who is considered one of the fastest players in the league, had a contract in Mannheim until the year 2009. In September 2008, his contract was terminated with immediate effect and he moved to EHC Biel in the Swiss National League A. After the season 2011/12 was not given a contract anymore, he moved on to league rivals Genève -Servette HC, in which he signed a one year contract. For the 2013/14 season Fata was taken from the Finnish first division Helsingfors IFK from the SM- liiga under contract.

Internationally

Fata represented Canada at the U20 World Youth Championship in 1999. During the tournament he scored a goal and three assists. In the final match he defeated with maple leaves against Russia and won the silver medal.
