Ried- Brig ( officially until 1994 called Ried Brig ) is a municipality in the district of Brig in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
History
The name Ried is very likely derive from the Alemannic Reuten or grub. At the end of the 15th century became Ried-Brig, the village law.
The village of Ried- Brig made in the last 40 years by a change from a farming village into a residential community.
In earlier times, a lot of shale was mined for house roofs top and Underground.
Geography
The municipality comprises only the various hamlets in Brigerberg that make up the village of Ried -Brig, a total of 43 pastures and Alps. The municipal area includes the historically known Gantertal with the famous Ganter.
In the south of the ridge from Hill Horn on Bortelhorn, " Furgguböimhoru " and Wasenhorn forms to Monte -Leone - burr the border with Italy. Along the Monte -Leone - ridge bordering Ried- Brig to the community Zwischbergen - Gondo.
To the west of Taferbach forms to Marchgrabu above Mittubäch the border to neighboring community Simplon village and continue along the Taferbach, Saltina and the irrigation water line " Oberi Brigeri " the border municipality Brig. In the east, the municipality borders on terms and Grengiols.
The municipality covers an area of 4753 hectares north side of the Simplon Pass road is almost exclusively in the municipal district of Ried- Brig.
