Sanctuary " The Seven Sorrows of Mary "

The baroque building of Fraz Delai ( 1671) was preceded by a Gothic precursor (1310 mentions ) are not known about the details. The church houses the miraculous image of a Gothic Pieta, a colored clay sculpture, now anachronistic in a lavish Baroque altar with marble columns, standing and flying angels, surrounded by a halo, is embedded. The other sculptures - an Isaiah, a Simeon, a painful Mother of God - are Baroque, as is the ceiling fresco of the Assumption in the dome and the Evangelists with their symbols in the pendentives.

Legend has it that a farmer once saw of the Passer forth a light and found a picture of Mary with other farmers. It was decided to build a chapel at this point. This was the beginning of the pilgrimage tradition in Riffiano presumably in the 14th century in existence today - however rather as a social initiative of the surrounding parishes and associations - on fixed dates are still.

Oldest piece of equipment of unknown origin is a Romanesque baptismal font pentagonal (dated 12th century ) with archaic sculptures that fight with lions or restrain this. These scenes relate symbolically to the baptism with which the Christian faith vanquish evil and sin. The lid from Val Gardena with standing eagle is an ingredient of 1910.

On the right wall: grave stone for Beatus a Porta, Bishop of Chur, which was sold in the turmoil of the Reformation from Chur, 1590 died as pastor of Tyrol and was buried here.

Chapel of Our Lady at the cemetery

The chapel, with late Gothic frescoes of a certain master Wenceslaus ( signature on a lion with tape, dated 1415) envisioned, whose identity is still largely unexplored. According to the prevailing opinion - because chronologically and stylistically match by name, - it is the same coming from Prague Wenceslas, the court painter of George I of Liechtenstein ( Trento ) was and the month of frescoes in the Eagle Tower of the Prince Bishop's Residence ( Castello di Buonconsiglio ) designed. Shown in the cemetery chapel Riffiano are scenes from the Old Testament ( Manna supply, Moses smashes the idols column ) as well as from the New Testament ( Adoration of the Magi, Flight into Egypt, 12 -year-old Jesus in the Temple, Cross, finding of the Cross by Constantine's mother Helena ). Dominant on the altar wall of God the Father, is designed as a bearded figure with outstretched arms, surrounded by a double ring music-making angels. In the pendentives of the four Fathers of the Church and the four symbols of the Evangelists are depicted.

The careful design of the small cemetery chapel by an artist of national importance only makes in connection with the pilgrimage sense; since there is no exact evidence of its beginning, historians conclude by implication that it must have been later than the time of origin of the frescoes ( terminus ante quem ).
