Riga LVRTC Transmitter

The LVRTC transmitter Riga was a medium-wave transmitter in Riga ( transmitter site Ulbroka ) of the hit program Radio Nord in the DRM simulcast radiated at the frequency of 945 kHz with a power of 2.7 kW, which could be received during the night hours in Germany. The acronym stood for LVRTC the operating company Latvijas valsts radio un televizijas centrs.

The antenna system has two self-radiating transmission towers were used. While the larger of the two towers was a conventional 125 -meter high guyed steel framework mast, the mast of the second station was a so-called Blaw- Knox Tower, a guyed tower with a diamond-shaped cross-section. Such transmission towers in Europe there are otherwise only found in four other locations namely Lisnagarvey in Northern Ireland, Lakihegy in Hungary, Wakarel and Stara Zagora in Bulgaria.

After the end of the transmit operation in July 2008, the towers were blown up on 16 May 2010.
