History

It was originally planned to build a tram from the mountain station of the Polybähnli up on the hill Germania. Instead, they built a small funicular from the University road up to Germaniastrasse. With the construction of the viaduct over the Hadlaubstrasse a steel bridge was built of reinforced concrete iron in Switzerland for the first time. On April 4, 1901, the cable car Rigiviertel (SR ) started its operations.

In 1951, we replaced the two old wooden wagon through modern metal car body. Between 1978 and 1979, the cable car was fundamentally renewed. In 1978 the old hill station Germaniastrasse was stopped and the line extended by 80 meters uphill. They also got two new cars. On 29 May 1979, the renewed cable car under the name of " Cable Car Rigiblick " as the first fully automatic franchised cable car in Switzerland with the intermediate stations Goldauerstrasse, Hadlaubstrasse ( Junction Station) and Germania Street was opened.
