Riley County, Kansas

Riley County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manhattan.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern Kansas, is located in the north about 45 miles from Nebraska and has an area of 1611 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marshall County, Pottawatomie County, Wabaunsee County, Geary County, Clay County and Washington County.

History

Riley County was formed on 25 August 1855, one of the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Fort Riley. On May 30, 1879 Tornado Irving moved by the County.
