Rimbert

Rimbert, Rembert, Rambert or Rembart (* 830 in Flanders, † June 11 888 in Bremen) was 865-888 Archbishop of the diocese of Bremen in personal union with the Archdiocese of Hamburg.

Life

Rimbert, who came from the nobility of Flanders is probably born in Torhout ( province of West Flanders). He was there in the monastery at Torhout (also called Thourout ) educated. The Archbishop Ansgar, influenced him greatly. He was 865 his successor with the awarding of the pallium by Pope Nicholas I.

His successor was Archbishop Adalgar 888.

The poet Agius devoted Rimbert his poems De computo. He was later venerated as a saint, was patron of various churches and of the St. Remberti - pin in Bremen.
