Rimo Muztagh

P1f1p5

The Rimo Muztagh is one of the remotest parts of the Karakoram in the north-western India near the disputed border with Pakistan.

Location and characteristics

Compared to the nearby Baltoro Muztagh there are here because of the remoteness and proximity to the military-controlled Siachen Glacier little research and climbing activity.

In the north, the Rimo Muztagh is limited by the Rimo Glacier, which flows eastward into the upper Shyok, and which flows through the Teram - Shehr Glacier in the Siachen Glacier. In the north- east are the mountains and the northeastern Rimo Karakorumpass, run over the historically important trade routes of Central Asia. To the north it borders on the eastern foothills of the Siachen Muztagh.

On the east side of the mountains bordering the river Shyok, lie behind the Depsang levels, part of the Tibetan plateau. In the southeast the famous Sasser Pass separates ( Saser La) Rimo Muztagh from the Saser Muztagh.

The western boundary is the Siachen glacier and its outflow, the Nubra, with the underlying Saltoro Mountains and the Kailas Mountains.

The highest peak is the Mamostong Kangri with a height of 7516 m.
