Ringgold County, Iowa

The Ringgold County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 5,131 inhabitants and a population density of 3.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Ayr.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Iowa, on the south by Missouri and has an area of 1,396 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Ringgold County was formed on 24 February 1847. It was named for Major Samuel B. Ringgold (1796-1846), a hero in the Mexican War.

1855 wuurde established its own administration. A year later, a wooden court and administrative building was erected, which was destroyed by a storm.

1859 a new, larger and composed of better wood building was built, the 25 years was on duty.

1884 a larger brick building was erected, which was used until 1921. Because the building had become dilapidated, moved the administration in a temporary, until 1927 the house was still in use -related.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Ringgold County 5,131 people in 2,072 households. The population density was 3.7 people per square kilometer.
