Rino Fisichella

Rino Fisichella, actually Salvatore Fisichella ( born August 25, 1951 in Codogno, Lodi, Italy) is a Roman Catholic theologian and Archbishop Curia.

Life

Fisichella was a seminarian at the Almo Collegio Capranica and received on March 13, 1976, ordained priest in Rome by Cardinal Ugo Poletti. In 1980 he received his doctorate at the Pontifical Lateran University with a thesis on Hans Urs von Balthasar.

In 1998 he was appointed by John Paul II appointed auxiliary bishop in Rome and appointed Titular Bishop of Vicohabentia. The episcopal ordination was granted on September 12, 1998 by Camillo Cardinal Ruini.

He was president of the diocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue and is a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Fisichella was instrumental in the encyclical Fides et Ratio, published in 1998 by Pope John Paul II. In 2006, he supported the work of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice ( CAPP ) with the conference " social encyclical, Centesimus Annus ' and the Future of Europe" in the Acton Institute.

Fisichella was for many years professor of fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. From 2002 to 2010 he was rector of the Pontifical Lateran University and beyond official chaplain of the Italian Parliament and President of the " International Institute " John Paul II " for Studies on Marriage and Family."

On June 17, 2008, he gave birth to Pope Benedict XVI. from his duties as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome and appointed him as the successor of Elio Sgreccia president of the Pontifical Academy for Life. At the same time he raised him while maintaining his Titularbistums per hac vice Titular Archbishop.

June 30, 2010, he was named Benedict XVI. President of the newly established Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.

Fisichella is considered the Vatican's " chief ethicist ".
