Rino Marchesi

Rino Marchesi ( born June 11, 1937 in San Giuliano Milanese ( MI), Italy ) is an Italian former football player and coach.

Rino Marchesi was known during his playing career for his stunning technique and was able to organize with its great overview the game from the defense out very well.

Playing career

In the club

Rino Marchesi began his career as a midfielder, and later was used mostly on the position of the libero. His first professional stop was Atalanta Bergamo, where he played from 1957 to 1960. He then moved to Fiorentina, with whom he reached the final in the 1961/62 season in the European Cup winner, which is, however, in the replay 0-3 lost against Atlético Madrid. In the 1965/66 season Marchesi was with Florence the Coppa Italia won. When Fiorentina he was from 1960 to 1965 regulars, in the 1965/66 season he came only to two appearances in the first team. That's why he joined in the summer of 1966 to Lazio, where he focused on the following five seasons under contract. In 1971 Marchesi finally went to the AC Prato in the C series

In the National Team

Marchesi graduated in his career two caps for the Italian national football team. He debuted on June 15, 1961 in a 4-1 against Argentina, after which he played again on May 5, 1962 in a 2-1 against France.

Coaching career

Was Rino Marchesis first as a coach of a professional team in 1973 in Montevarchi Calcio Aquila 1902, after which he coached AC Mantova, Ternana Calcio, Como Calcio, Udinese Calcio, AC Venice, SPAL, U.S. Lecce, Avellino Calcio Napoli and Juventus.

His greatest success as a coach was reaching the third place in Serie A in 1981 with the SSC Napoli, as they missed the championship just barely. Later Marchesi was the first coach in Italy at Napoli Diego Maradona.

From 1986 to 1988 Rino Marchesi was coach at Juventus. He made the team but no demonstrable results, especially because the team was in the upheaval since the era of the great stars of the team, Michel Platini, was during his tenure to an end.
