Rio Hondo is a town in Cameron County, Texas, United States with approximately 2,050 inhabitants ( 2003). Rio Hondo is located about 25 km north of the Mexican border and 20 km west of the coast of the Caribbean Sea.

Rio Hondo was built in the 1910s around a general store in 1914, the community had already about 100 inhabitants.
