Riograndense Republic

The Riograndensische Republic or Republic Piratini ( Portuguese: República Rio Gran Dense or República do Piratini ) was a state in southern Brazil.

It was created on September 11, 1836 after the Battle of Ceibal in the context of a separatist secession. The proclamation was made by General Antônio de Sousa Neto, Bento Gonçalves da Silva certain president who led the Republic through the Farrapen revolution. The Constitution of the Republic was adopted in 1843 Alegrete. Capital was the city Piratini.

With the Treaty of Poncho Verde, who finished the Farrapen Revolution, the Republic of Piratini was disbanded again on 1 March 1845 Today it forms the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
